The commune has also a unit designed for providing people with social assistance. It is the Social Assistance Centre which in justified cases provides financial help, however, the main task of its social workers is to support people in overcoming difficulties. Social work which is a difficult and responsible job is carried out mainly outside the centre. The centre also deals with paying social benefits which are provided by law.
It is the Centre’s responsibility to prevent the consequences of unemployment, fight addictions and provide health care. These activities require considerable initiative of the centre. In order to fulfill its tasks, the centre cooperates with many other institutions such as the District Job Centre, health care centres or the Communal Committee of Solving Alcohol Problems.
The Communal Committee of Solving Alcohol Problems is a special purpose committee. It initiates a number of actions aimed at preventing and fighting the consequences of addiction, mainly to alcohol and drugs. Apart from psychological and legal assistance which one may receive at the seat of the Communal Committee of Solving Alcohol Problems which is located on the premises of the Social Assistance Centre, it is worth paying attention to preventive actions taken and financed by the Committee – such examples may be the above-mentioned Summer Action and Senior’s Day which are organized with the help of the Communal Committee of Solving Alcohol Problems and the Social Assistance Centre.
Speaking of social aid, we cannot pass over activities and generosity of the commune residents. Actions of collecting food organized by the Social Assistance Centre with participation of local schools and the Public Utility Company reveal how willing people are to provide help to their co-residents.
